You always hear about gardens being a work in progress. We epitomize that idea. Over the years we’ve added another garden here and there, plopped in a pathway to make things easier to navigate, and punctuated it all with some whimsical art.
As we heard more and more about the less than desirable impact people can sometimes have on the environment, we started thinking about small things we could do to assist our critters in maintaining a healthier habitat.
Thanks to a generous man in the neighborhood sharing his tadpoles, we have been raising tree frogs for the past three years. Children love watching them “wiggle swim” in the water; even adult visitors have spent a lot of time looking at the various stages of metamorphosis. Educational and fun– you can’t beat the combination!
We have small ponds we leave open when the bird baths need to be overturned, trees of all sizes, bushes, and various plants to provide food, nest sites and protection. We think providing our critters with a helpful environment pays them back just a little bit for the joy they continually give us.
